So here we are again, another season has come and gone and a new calendar year is merely hours away. There were as any year provides some ups and downs, more responsibilities dumped on my plate, but overall it was another very very fine year of fishing and opportunity.
Some of the highlights were finally finding a UV resin that does everything it claims in Solarez; becoming an advisor with Thomas & Thomas rods and getting the opportunity to work closely on a streamer specific rod series in the Exocett SS; and lastly meeting several more great like minded anglers at Dally’s Streamer Lovefest.
I once again spent several days on not only the waters nearby, but on some new to me places as well, further broadening the scope of places that I have fished. In 2018 there are many more new places for me that I anxiously await and I look forward to what else is to come. To all of you out there, may you have a safe and happy new year and I hope 2018 turns out to be everything that you hope for. For now, here is a reflection through pictures of 2017……..

Well I am here to tell you that this winter, its on the menu. In December and January I will be conducting two separate classes involving tying streamers at two different locations. Both of which should be a great time, and I look forward to seeing you there. Expect to tie some familiar streamers of mine, but also some new patterns as well. Great time to brush up on or learn how to tie with some new materials, as well as working with some deer hair in a spinning and stacking capacity. Space is limited so use the contact links provided to sign up. Here are the details.

Big bugs, and how to tie them. Join me as I take you through every step of how to tie a variety of articulated streamers. If you've been wondering how these flies are tied, or they just seem to give you fits when you tie them on your own, this class will put you on track and teach you the correct way to build them. Class tuition will be $75 per person for a 4-5 hour session. Included will be all hooks and materials, you'll need to bring your tying vise, light, all your tying tools and a selection of 6/0 or 140 denier thread. If you're limited on thread colors, white and black will suffice. More details on the class will be released in the months to come and all booking will be done through Greg at the shop. Intermediate tying skill level required for this class, maximum of 10 students.

Join me for a flytying class involving instruction on tying some of the newer modern streamers. This class will encompass a few of my more known streamer patterns as well as some new ones, and potentially some stuff from some other noted fly tyers. The cost of the class will be $60 per person for roughly 3 solid hours of instruction. Materials and lists will be provided, you will need your vise, tools and a complement of threads. Class starts at 9 AM and runs till noon, we will break for lunch and then come back for a presentation at 1 PM involving the many ways in which to fish these types of flies, the gear necessary to do so and also some of my thought processes on designing these types of patterns.

Loaded with cool videos, photography and stories about all things flyfishing. The new Fall issue went live earlier this week and inside the pages you'll find a rather easy pattern that some of you have seen me tie recently.
The Simple Minnow is just that, simplicity in a modern platform with some of todays favorite materials and techniques. If you wanna make it even simpler, throw a Fishmask on as your finisher rather than spend the time with making a uniform resin head. Personally, I prefer the resin but that's just me as I feel I have more control over the shape of the head, and the fly looks a heck of a lot cleaner to me. Do what you wish it will hunt regardless. Check it out on page 138 of the Fall issue, simply click the SCOF logo above.
